Breast Augmentation Pain Management Tips

By Rena Graham

One of the biggest concerns that any patient faces or worries about after any invasive surgery is pain. But what do you do for the kind that you experience after a boob job? How can this be managed?

To help you glide through the healing process with better ease and success, here are some tips to help you manage the pain more effectively.

You see, the sensation of pain is different for every person, and this is dependent on their pain threshold and pain tolerance. That is why, we can never judge the amount of pain a person is feeling and only they can rate its intensity.

Take Analgesic or Pain Medication

The usual treatment used for pain is a prescribed analgesic or pain medications. But there are instances where patients do not respond well with this. That is why there are other measures, such as pain pumps, although these are much expensive but can be very effective.

A pain pump, sometimes called an infusion pump, is a machine that delivers a pain medication or a long-acting anesthetic in the appropriate dosage. It is set to run automatically to release the medication to your system particularly when you need it the most. The good thing here is that they are carefully calculated to limit side effects such as drowsiness, constipation or nausea. This is usually used 2-3 days after the surgery.

Choose the appropriate type of breast implants and size

Another factor that also affects the severity of pain after surgery is the placement and size of the implants. Some patients want a more dramatic effect, and to ensure this the implants would have to be placed under the muscle, which means more traumas to the area. Adding to that, the patient would request for a larger implants which increases the stretching. As a result, this increases the pain after breast augmentation.

To avoid the kind of pain caused by the situation that was just mentioned, it is best to thoroughly discuss your procedure and your options with an experienced surgeon. Counselling is important regarding the pros and cons of the different sizes and types of implants.

Use proper compression garment

Support is also an important factor that can significantly lessen pain after breast implants. After the elastic bandages are removed, you can continue the support by wearing jogging bras. This will make it easier for you to move around especially when your breasts are still a bit swollen.

Proper body mechanics will be very helpful during this very sensitive time. Avoid overstretching the muscles of the area or bending over to prevent the pain. You might want to keep a good posture to avoid sagging of the breasts which adds more weight to it and the healing wound area.

Practise ROM exercise

Lastly, range of motion exercises can also help manage pain after breast augmentation, given that you perform them properly to avoid adding trauma to the area. A range of motion (ROM) exercise is particularly helpful especially in patients who have under the muscle implants because they are usually at risk for muscle spasms. You can ask your surgeon about this, so that you can be sure that you will be properly instructed.

Latest trial of the One Laptop Per Child running in India; Uruguay orders 100,000 machines

Thursday, November 8, 2007

India is the latest of the countries where the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) experiment has started. Children from the village of Khairat were given the opportunity to learn how to use the XO laptop. During the last year XO was distributed to children from Arahuay in Peru, Ban Samkha in Thailand, Cardal in Uruguay and Galadima in Nigeria. The OLPC team are, in their reports on the startup of the trials, delighted with how the laptop has improved access to information and ability to carry out educational activities. Thailand’s The Nation has praised the project, describing the children as “enthusiastic” and keen to attend school with their laptops.

Recent good news for the project sees Uruguay having ordered 100,000 of the machines which are to be given to children aged six to twelve. Should all go according to plan a further 300,000 machines will be purchased by 2009 to give one to every child in the country. As the first to order, Uruguay chose the OLPC XO laptop over its rival from Intel, the Classmate PC. In parallel with the delivery of the laptops network connectivity will be provided to schools involved in the project.

The remainder of this article is based on Carla G. Munroy’s Khairat Chronicle, which is available from the OLPC Wiki. Additional sources are listed at the end.

Egypt protests: Army say they will not use force on demonstrators as Mubarak announces cabinet

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

The president of Egypt has suffered a “devastating blow” after the country’s army announced they would not use force against their own people, who continue to protest against the government tonight. The news came hours after six journalists who reported on the protests were released from custody.

Hosni Mubarak yesterday announced a new cabinet, which does not include several figures who protesters largely do not approve of. Analysts have, however, suggested little had changed within the government; many positions, they say, are filled with military figures.

To the great people of Egypt, your armed forces, acknowledging the legitimate rights of the people … have not and will not use force against the Egyptian people.

In a statement broadcast on state media in Egypt, the army said: “To the great people of Egypt, your armed forces, acknowledging the legitimate rights of the people … have not and will not use force against the Egyptian people.” A BBC correspondent in Cairo said the announcement meant it “now seems increasingly likely that the 30-year rule of Mr Mubarak is drawing to a close.”

“The presence of the army in the streets is for your sake and to ensure your safety and wellbeing. The armed forces will not resort to use of force against our great people,” the statement added. “Your armed forces, who are aware of the legitimacy of your demands and are keen to assume their responsibility in protecting the nation and the citizens, affirms that freedom of expression through peaceful means is guaranteed to everybody.”

Earlier today, six journalists from the independent news network Al-Jazeera were released from custody after being detained by police. The U.S. State Department criticized the arrests; equipment was reportedly confiscated from the journalists.

Egyptian officials yesterday ordered the satellite channel to stop broadcasting in the country. Al-Jazeera said they were “appalled” by the government’s decision to close its Egyptian offices, which they described as the “latest attack by the Egyptian regime to strike at its freedom to report independently on the unprecedented events in Egypt.”

In a statement, the news agency added: “Al-Jazeera sees this as an act designed to stifle and repress the freedom of reporting by the network and its journalists. In this time of deep turmoil and unrest in Egyptian society it is imperative that voices from all sides be heard; the closing of our bureau by the Egyptian government is aimed at censoring and silencing the voices of the Egyptian people.”

On Friday, Wikinews reported the government had shut off practically all Internet traffic both out of and into the nation, as well as disrupting cellphone usage. A spokesperson for the social networking website Facebook said “limiting Internet access for millions of people is a matter of concern for the global community.”

A reported 50,000 campaigners, who are demanding the long-time leader step down and complaining of poverty, corruption, and oppression, filled Tahrir Square in Cairo today, chanting “We will stay until the coward leaves.” It is thought 100 people have so far died in the demonstrations. Today there have been protests in Suez, Mansoura, Damanhour, and Alexandria.

Speaking to news media in the area, many protesters said the new cabinet did little to quell their anger. “We want a complete change of government, with a civilian authority,” one said. Another added: “This is not a new government. This is the same regime—this is the same bluff. [Mubarak] has been bluffing us for 30 years.”

In Tahrir Square today, protesters played music as strings of barbed wire and army tanks stood nearby. Demonstrators scaled light poles, hanging Egyptian flags and calling for an end to Mubarak’s rule. “One poster featured Mubarak’s face plastered with a Hitler mustache, a sign of the deep resentment toward the 82-year-old leader they blame for widespread poverty, inflation and official indifference and brutality during his 30 years in power,” one journalist in the square reported this evening.

Fire That Commentator!}

Fire That Commentator!

by

Michael A. VerdicchioThere is a commentator that you know very well that should be fired, immediately! Now I hate to see someone loose his job, but in this case, it is critically necessary, because that commentator is ruining your life.

Let me explain.

A commentator is one who discusses news or events. He or she will interpret and analyze events. In other words, a commentator does more than just report the facts. The dictionary definition of a commentator is, “an expert who observes and comments on something.”

How would it make you feel to turn on the television some night and watch a very famous commentator discuss and interpret your personal life in a negative way? Would you just sit, watch or listen to all those detrimental comments? You would probably be outraged.

Yet, that is exactly what millions of people do every day of their lives. And not just at night! They listen to a commentator from the time they get up until the time they fall asleep. And sadly, most of the time they have no objections to what the commentator is saying.

The commentator that I am talking about, who needs to be fired immediately, is the commentator inside of your head. I’m talking about the one who gives you all the negative interpretations about your life; the one who is so quick to analyze your every mistake.

And, this commentator is so slick that those short, but defeating comments, come out in the first person. Comments like, “I just can’t seem to figure this out.” “This never works out right for me.” “I am so stupid.” “That was a dumb thing to say.” “I’m always doing something wrong!” And on and on it goes.

This commentator is so brilliant that he can even predict your future! “I’m never going to get ahead.” “I’ll never get married.” “I probably won’t get that job.” “This is just the way it’s going to be for me.”

In the words of Donald Trump, tell the commentator, “You’re fired!”

This kind of self-talk from the commentator in your head is very defeating. It can ruin your life! You just cannot sit and listen to comments like, “I’m stupid,” and at the same time move forward toward being successful.

By the way, you are not stupid! Even if you have done some stupid things in your life, you’re still not stupid. Everyone has done some stupid things in their lives, so is everyone in the world stupid?

If you continue to allow comments like, “I’ll never get ahead,” to come into your mind unchecked, you will begin to believe it. Once it reaches your belief system, or your core beliefs, then it will continue to influence your thoughts and decisions from a subconscious level.

So, the first thing that you want to do is to fire the commentator. And by that, I simply mean that any time you hear any negative thoughts in your head about yourself, you dismiss them, immediately!

So if, “I’m so stupid,” pops up in your head, immediately counter with, “No, I am not stupid. I may not have made the best choice, but I am not stupid. I am very intelligent.”

Far too many people do not realize just how defeating these negative comments in their minds can be. In fact, there are a lot of people who not only listen to those kinds of comments in their head, but then they turn around and voice them out loud to others! That’s a double reinforcement of defeat. Have you ever heard someone say, “Sorry I’m so stupid”?

So first, stay on guard in your mind. Do not accept any negative comments about yourself, or let them settle in. Instead, kick them out and replace them with positive thoughts. “I am a great person.” “I am headed for success; in fact the Creator designed me for success.”

And secondly, if there is an issue with your core beliefs, then deal with it directly. In other words, if you really believe that you will never get ahead in life, then you need to address that core belief directly.

You will recognize the core beliefs because they always have emotions tied to them. When you say the thought tied to your core belief, you will feel that way too. Be glad that it came up, because now that you know it’s there, you can get rid of it.

Recognize it. Allow yourself to feel that way without judging yourself. Then, say, “I might have felt this way in the past, for reasons that I thought were valid at the time, but I don’t want to feel that way anymore. I choose to let go of this, now! I am putting off this negative feeling about myself, and its place I am putting on who I really want to be.”

As you work this process in your mind, you can replace your current core belief with a new core belief that will serve you well. Most people are waiting for their circumstances to change. The reality is that the circumstances will never change until the thoughts in the heart change. The statement from Proverbs is still true: “As he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

So, fire that commentator today!

Toothpaste fills cavities without drilling

Thursday, February 24, 2005

A paste containing synthetic tooth enamel can seal small cavities without drilling. Kazue Yamagishi and colleagues at the FAP Dental Institute in Tokyo say that the paste can repair small cavities in 15 minutes.

Currently, fillers don’t stick to such small cavities so dentists must drill bigger holes. Hydroxyapatite crystals, of which natural enamel is made, bond with teeth to repair tiny areas of damage.

Yamagishi and colleagues have tested their paste on a lower premolar tooth that showed early signs of decay. They found that the synthetic enamel merged with the natural enamel. The synthetic enamel also appears to make teeth stronger which will improve resistance to future decay. As with drilling, however, there is still the potential for pain: The paste is strongly acidic to encourage crystal growth and causes inflammation if it touches the gums.

The paste is reported in the journal Nature.

Pope tells Canada to end gay marriage

Saturday, September 9, 2006

Pope Benedict XVI told Canada to end gay marriage and instructed Roman Catholic politicians not to vote for gay marriage, urging them not to sacrifice their personal beliefs for the sake of opinion polls and social trends. Benedict met with Ontario bishops at the Vatican in Rome.

“In the name of tolerance, your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse,” the Pope told the bishops. “In the name of freedom of choice, it is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children.” “When the Creator’s divine plan is ignored, the truth of human nature is lost.”

Neil McCarthy, director of public relations for the Archdiocese of Toronto, said yesterday that Benedict XVI’s latest foray into the gay marriage debate came directly in response to issues the visiting Ontario bishops would have raised.

He said Catholic bishops from Quebec and the Atlantic provinces also made a visit to the Vatican this year, asking a response from the Pope on other matters of concern in Canada, such as unemployment and declining church attendance among young people.

Pope John Paul II, before his death last year, denounced Canada for its drive to legalize same-sex marriage.

Parliament passed legislation in June 2005 that made Canada the fourth country in the world to allow gay marriage.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said he will revisit the issue and that members of Parliament will be asked this fall whether they wish to reopen the debate.

Rachel Weisz wants Botox ban for actors

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

English actress Rachel Weisz thinks that Botox injections should be banned for all actors.

The 39-year-old actress, best known for her roles in the Mummy movie franchise and for her Academy Award-winning portrayal in The Constant Gardener, feels facial Botox injections leave actors less able to convey emotion and that it harms the acting industry as much as steroids harm athletes.

In an interview with UK’s Harper’s Bazaar, coming out next month, Weisz says, “It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” she claims. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

Best Wrinkle Creams 5 Quick Reasons Botox Is For Dummies

Submitted by: Sean Saunders

Are you thinking about turning to botox instead of sticking with the best wrinkle creams? Well, thank goodness — as you are still only thinking about opting for botox and have not yet made a final decision. Why is that good news? Because not only have you not wasted your money on this completely unnecessary procedure, but you have not yet risked your health either.

Here are the 5 Plain as Day Reasons Why Botox Is Ridiculous…

1. Of all the aspects of facial rejuvenation, botox only targets one particular problem; motion wrinkles. This leaves you with an enormous amount of ground to cover, as the treatment won’t help you with blemishes, fine lines, crowsfeet, dry skin, age spots, skin pigmentation, and/or any other skin problem you might be facing.

2. Poisonous. You heard correctly, botox is actually a bacterial neurotoxin called botulinum; one of the most poisonous substances on the planet. If this doesn’t scream “Stay Away”, what does?

3. Botox can only be used on LESS than 5% of your face. Less than 5 percent! That leaves 95% of your face unaccounted for.

4. Costs $700-$1000 per injection. A botox injection generally only lasts 3-6 months. This means you will have to spend anywhere from $2000 to $3600 a year just to keep away a FEW wrinkles. Sound like a smart idea? Of course not.

5. If botox injections are repeated again and again over time, there is a very plausible risk of skin and/or nerve damage. In addition, the skin adjacent to the injected area may actually become MORE wrinkled with time.

Here are the 5 Simple Reasons Why Using the Best Wrinkle Creams is NOT Ridiculous…

1. The best wrinkle creams target all the aspects of facial rejuvenation; dryness, wrinkles, finelines, crowsfeet, age spots, blemishes, you name it. Not only will a good wrinkle cream repair visible wrinkles, but they will start working on the “invisible” ones too; the wrinkles which can’t be seen with the naked eye. As if that weren’t enough, the best wrinkle creams will even work to prevent future wrinkles.

2. Not Poisonous. Anti wrinkle creams, generally speaking, are made with natural ingredients that won’t harm you in any way. If there are unnatural, man-made ingredients within the cream, well, it’s safe to say they won’t be dangerous to your health.

3. The best wrinkle creams can be used on your ENTIRE face; the full 100%. This means you can use them around the mouth, eyes, nose, cheeks, and everywhere else.

4. Costs only about $80 to $200 every FEW months. The most you’ll spend on wrinkle cream in any given year should be no more than $400 to $600, if even that.

5. When the best wrinkle creams are used again and again, the result is that you’ll have even YOUNGER looking skin. The longer you keep up your anti wrinkle cream routine, the better the results will be.

So, after reading over this information, what is your verdict? Is botox the way to go? Or, are you going to keep using the best wrinkle creams for your skin?
