If Buying Flowers In Charleston, Wv For Delivery Elsewhere; Can I See Them In Advance?

byAlma Abell

There are some unfortunate people who have allergies that can cause them to have to avoid being anywhere near to real flowers; but, for the majority of us, the sight of flowers blooming in their natural glory is a sight that fills us with joy and uplifts our spirits. This is why we so love to cut flowers and take them home to decorate our houses and other places; it is why we use flowers at various ceremonies throughout our lifetimes and even upon our deaths.

Since very few of us can actually grow, all the flowers that we might wish to use; flower sellers have long been a part of the daily commercial scene. Enterprising folk in the countryside would grow and nurture flowering plants of as wide a variety as possible and then, according to the seasons, cut the flowers and bring them into the towns for sale to the population there.

As our towns progressed; the flower farms were pushed further out into the countryside; but tended to become larger and would grow their flowers for bulk sales to enterprising people in the towns who set up flower shops or sizeable sidewalk stalls. Up to the early 1900’s people wanting flowers would have to go to a florist and purchase them – what happened next was up to the buyer; take them home for personal enjoyment or personally deliver them to someone else as a gift.

Take Away Yourself; Or, Have Them Delivered

The gift aspect changed when florists hit upon the idea of cooperating with each other so that a customer’s order placed in (say) Charleston, WV could be delivered to a nominated someone at a different location; the continuing introduction of ever more efficient communications systems expanded the scope of such remote deliveries to the point where, today, you can order Flowers In Charleston, WV that will be delivered very quickly to someone located literally anywhere in the world.

Naturally, if the order is for a delivery of flowers for Charleston, WV itself; the florist will send flowers from their own stock and you can go to their shop and judge the quality for yourself. However, flowers from Charleston, WV will not be actually sent when the destination is a considerable distance away; the order will be passed on to another florist (through an organization such as Florists’ Transworld Delivery) who will make the flower arrangement and pass it on to the requested recipient.

The family owned business of Young Floral can provide you with flowers in Charleston, WV and the surrounding area; or, they can arrange deliveries to anywhere else.

World’s first double arm transplant undertaken in Munich

Saturday, August 2, 2008

A 54-year-old German farmer who lost both arms in a farming accident six years ago has become the first patient to receive a complete double arm transplant. The patient, whose name has not been released, underwent the operation at the Klinikum rechts der Isar, part of the Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), last week; he is said to be recovering well.

The operation lasted 15 hours and was performed by a team of 40 specialists in Plastic Surgery, Hand Surgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesiology, under the direction of the head of the Plastics and Hand Surgery department, Prof. Hans-Günther Machens, Dr. Christoph Höhnke (Head of Transplants, Senior Physician; Plastics and Hand Surgery) and Prof. Edgar Biemer, the former Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Clinic.

In a press statement released by the clinic, it was revealed that the patient had been thoroughly physically checked and had psychological counselling prior to the surgery to ensure he was mentally stable enough to cope with the procedure. Since completion of the surgery, the patient has been on immuno-suppressant drugs to prevent rejection of the new limbs.

Following the surgery, the press release from the clinic’s press manager, Dr. Tanja Schmidhofer, included the following statement:

The flow of blood was [re-]started in intervals of 20 minutes because the anaesthetists had to make sure that the patient would not suffer from the blood flowing back from the transplanted parts. No significant swelling was seen, nor indeed any ischemia (lack of blood flow to the tissues). This is a testament to the surgeons who established a fully functioning blood flow…the main nerves, the Musculocutaneus, Radial and Ulnar nerves were all attached and sewn together, and finally an external fixator was applied, with pins in the lower and upper arms, avoiding the risk of pressure points and sores. The operation was successfully completed after 15 hours.

Without the immuno-suppressant drugs given to the patient, the risk of there being a Graft-versus-Host Reaction or GvHR, would have been significant due to the upper arm containing a large amount of bone marrow, consisting of ICC’s or Immuno-Competent Cells, which would have triggered a near total rejection of the new limbs. A GvHR is a condition which results in the cells from the transplant attacking the immune system of the body.

Indications from the clinic suggest that the double attachment went well, although it could be up to 2 full years before the patient is able to move the arms.

The donor arms came from an unnamed teenager, who is believed to have died in a car accident.

Selecting A Plastic Surgeon

Submitted by: Ricardo Silva

Although plastic surgery is usually a voluntary choice, you should treat it as seriously as any other medical procedure. Here are some thoughts on selecting a plastic surgeon.

Selecting a Plastic Surgeon

If you were to be told you needed surgery to resolve a medical issue, you would take some basic steps. You would want to know exactly what was involved, the possible results and the risks of going ahead. In most cases, you would also want to get a second opinion, particularly if there were significant risks associated with the surgery. If a specialist were doing the surgery, you would undoubtedly want to know about their qualifications before agreeing to the procedure. Although plastic surgery is an elective surgery, you should treat it the same way.

The decision to improve your appearance through elective surgery should not be taken lightly. As with any surgery, you should consult with at least two plastic surgeons to get a full understanding of your options, the potential results and any risks. In making the final choice, there are some basic questions you should get answers to:

1. Is the plastic surgeon board certified? Board certification is a sign the surgeon has undergone significant training and continues to do so. You can confirm certification for any plastic surgeon by calling the American Board of Plastic Surgery at 866-275-2267.

2. Has the surgeon perform the surgery on previous occasions? If so, how many times?

3. Assuming the surgeon has done the surgery before, do they have before and after pictures?

4. What are the possible results from the surgery including potential risks?

5. Where will the surgery be performed and does the surgeon have privileges at a hospital?

6. As odd as this question may sound, will the surgeon actually perform the entire surgery? Some surgeons will allow assisting physicians to take active roles.

As with any surgery, you want a plastic surgeon that is highly qualified and experienced. Surgery is a serious matter, so do not shop by price.

Baby falls from third floor window and survives

Saturday, November 24, 2007

On Thursday, November 22, Thanksgiving Day, Bradley Priebe, a one-year-old baby boy fell from a third floor apartment window in New York City, New York. He has now been allowed to leave the hospital after staying overnight for observation. According to reports, the child sustained no serious injures from the fall and is in stable condition.

Anna Priebe, the baby’s mother says that it is “a miracle” that her son did not break any bones. Brandon, the father, says that the boy is doing “good. Everything’s OK.”

Bradley crawled out of the window and fell onto the roof of a Bronx music shop. The window was nearly 20 feet from the ground. The family thought the window was closed.

Police say that there is no reason to suspect that the incident is a criminal action, and no charges have been filed against the parents.

Romanian VAT to remain at 19 percent

Monday, February 28, 2005

[[w:Bucharest, Romania|Bucharest, Romania]] — The Romanian Finance Minister Ionu? Popescu has responded to public fears of a rise in value added tax (VAT) by saying that Romania’s VAT will remain at 19% and will not increase. He rejected rumours that the value added tax, which is applied to most goods and services, will increase due to negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and a need to boost government revenue.

After introducing a low flat tax rate of 16% on January 1, 2005, which applies to both personal income and corporate profits, the government has had to fund the tax cuts through alternative means, including increases in other types of taxation, to avoid running a high budget deficit. For example, from April 1, the government will increase excises as well as a range of other taxes. Despite the increase, Romania continues to have one of the lowest fiscal burdens in Europe due to the new 16% flat tax rate.

US Secretary Rice responds to European enquiries on alleged CIA prisons

Wednesday, December 7, 2005

The United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has begun to address concerns raised by the EU, the Council of Europe, and several member countries about the CIA’s detention practices upon her arrival in Germany for a European tour that began Tuesday.

“As a matter of US policy, the United States’ obligations under the U.N. Convention Against Torture, which prohibits, of course, cruel and inhumane and degrading treatment, those obligations extend to US personnel wherever they are, whether they are in the United States or outside the United States,” said Rice, speaking from the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Wednesday.

Media reports and Human Rights groups have alleged that the CIA transported renditioned prisoners through European countries, which could violate European laws and the sovereignty of countries involved. Secretary Rice claimed that the United States has respected the sovereignty of other countries, and that it has not transported detainees from one country to another for the purpose of interrogation using torture, and has not transported anyone to a country when we believe he will be tortured.

“We consider the captured members of Al-Qaeda and its affiliates to be unlawful combatants who may be held, in accordance with the law of war, to keep them from killing innocents. We must treat them in accordance with our laws, which reflect the values of the American people. We must question them to gather potentially significant, life-saving, intelligence. We must bring terrorists to justice wherever possible,” Rice told reporters before she left from Andrews Air Force base on Monday.

Rice said that European nations should realize that interrogations of terrorist suspects have produced information that has saved European lives. However, Secretary Rice provided no specific cases.

“Secretary Rice made extra-legal rendition sound like just another form of extradition. In fact, it’s a form of kidnapping and ‘disappearing’ someone entirely outside the law,” said Tom Malinowski, a Human Rights Watch official in Washington.

The CIA practice known as “extraordinary rendition” is used to interrogate terrorist suspects outside the U.S., where they are not subject to American legal protection.

“Kidnapping a foreign national for the purpose of detaining and interrogating him outside the law is contrary to American values,” said Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on the Khalid El-Masri case. “Our government has acted as if it is above the law. We go to court today to reaffirm that the rule of law is central to our identity as a nation.”

The ACLU feels the government has to be held to account over “extraordinary rendition”.

Open source game developer Perttu Ahola talks about Minetest with Wikinews

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.
